The Village Behind Every Piece
Raghurajpur is a small heritage craft village on the banks of the Bhargavi River in Odisha, India — recognized as one of the country's most important craft villages, where nearly every household practices a traditional art form passed down through generations.
This is the home of Pattachitra: intricate scroll paintings made using natural pigments and fine brushes, depicting stories from Indian mythology, folklore, and daily life. It's also home to palm leaf engraving (Tala Patra Chitra), a centuries-old technique where artists etch delicate imagery directly into dried palm leaves — a craft so precise it can take days to complete a single piece.
At Monira Atelier, every painting, engraving, and wooden piece is sourced directly from these artisans. We don't design what they make — we simply carry their work from Raghurajpur to Australia, as faithfully as we can.
Why It Matters
These crafts are living traditions, not relics — but they depend on a market that values handmade work enough to sustain it. When you buy from Monira Atelier, you're supporting artisan livelihoods directly and helping keep a centuries-old practice alive for the next generation of makers in Raghurajpur.
A Note on Authenticity
Because every piece is handmade, no two are ever exactly alike. Small variations in line, color, and texture aren't imperfections — they're proof of the human hand behind the work.
